"Mannes Orchestra featuring Yada Lee and Nell Flanders"

Led by conductor David Hayes, the Mannes Orchestra’'s 2014/15 season will include a variety of exciting performances, collaborations, and special projects at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center'’s Alice Tully Hall, Tishman Auditorium and the Mannes Concert Hall. The orchestra will also appear with the Mannes Opera at Hunter College'’s Kaye Playhouse for a production in December 2014 and at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College in May 2015.

The program for this concert will include:

Rimsky-Korsakov's Russian Easter Overture;

Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1 in D Major, op. 19 with violinist Yada Lee (2014 Mannes Concerto Competition winner);

Barber's School for Scandal Overture;

Stravinsky's Firebird Suite (1919) conducted by Nell Flanders (graduating MM conducting major).

"Mannes Sounds Festival"

Since 1999, Mannes has presented a yearlong music festival every year. Each festival has a theme and a program of more than 20 concerts performed by Mannes College’s gifted young student artists, distinguished faculty members, and renowned guests, and held at prestigious New York City concert venues and cultural institutions. The festivals are an outstanding component of the total Mannes program.

 

As part of the 2014 "Mannes Sounds" festival, Mannes College The New School For Music will present a concert in collaboration with the Czech Center featuring Mannes's talented young artists. 

The program will include: 

Dvorák's Songs for soprano and Dumka and Furiant for piano, op. 12; 

Liebermann's Gargoyles for piano; 

Martinu's Variations on a Theme of Rossini for cello and piano, 

Smetana's Furiant, Polka, Dupak from Czech Dances for piano;

Husa's Sonata à tre for clarinet, violin and piano (1982).
